but seriously, arent some protectees just not really worth it for these brave men and women to take this ultimate sacrifice? I mean seriously... everyone will say Bush ok yeah I suppose but he is the president so by office he rates. But really Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton? they are simply candidates, I think asking someone to die for them is a bit much

There are things in life called policies, if the policy is that the Secret service will provide protection to candidtaes then anyones opininon of that candidate is a moot point. The same arguement could be made as to why 3500 young men have been killed needlessly in country that was no threat

If someone chooses to put their life on the line for another, who are we to question it. My son is home for 2 weeks R&R from Iraq. Some say we don't have the right to send him back. But he is a grown adult fighting for what he believes in. He CHOSE to be where he is

in the case of Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama I believe that it's not equitable playing field for the rest of the candidates. All candidates assume the inherent risk (physical, financial) of deciding to run for the presidency. Yes, Hillary already had coverage based on the fact she's a former first lady.

It's not surprising that she's and Obama has been viewed as a 'frontrunners'; with the presence of Secret Service there's the "power of incumbency"...."the power of perception"..... exalting them above other *similarly situated* individuals (e.g. other senators) in an inequitable manner.

It might be different if all was receiving coverage or if the race included candidates such as governor who uses his/her coverage as well.

I don't know, but maybe the campaign financing reform laws need to reflect on such undue inequities i.e. the cost and the use of Secret Service protection.
