Would you ever consider using a service like this?

If there was a company that offered to deliver to you everyday things at your home or office, would you use it? Why or why not?

Think like this: the middle of the night your child wakes up with a cough, but you don't have any cough syrup- this local company would bring it right to you

Scenerio 2- you're about to go to bed and totally forgot that your nephew's birthday party is tomorrow and you forgot to get him that gift certificate to Toys R Us

Scenerio 3- You were supposed to pick up milk on your way home from work, but it totally slipped your mind. You weren't planning to go back out that night...

Would you take advantage of this service? Why/why not? And how much would you pay for something like this?

Details are great! Thanks ahead of time!

It's a great idea, if you're thinking of getting into this type of home business. There's a definate need for professional personal shoppers or personal concierge service, but generally, only in large cities.

I recommend you do a google search for "personal concierge service" and take a look at what others are doing if this is what you have in mind.

There's soooo much more you can get into as well. Arranging transportation to airports, making reservations at hotels and restaurants, assisting with party planning/decorating, etc.

As for how much to get paid... it varies by region and by service performed. I know that grocery delivery services charge between $6-12 on top of the bill. Some charge a percentage of the cost of item(s) and others charge a straight monthly or yearly fee.

Have fun and good luck. The sky is the limit.

I'd pick everything up myself because 1. I like to read labels on cough syrup bottles and other medicine and I'd want to make sure my kid got what I wanted him/her to have in terms of the right medicine (assuming I didn't already have a preferred brand at this time... I usually just for the cheap brand), 2. I could see me doing the Toys R Us gift card thing and I would pay for the person to get it, but the price would depend on how far they were from me and the value of the item. I wouldn't have someone get a $5 item, but pay them $20, so then I'd assume the person would have a minimum (like they won't do the run if the total of the items is below $20...). If I needed to get a regular card though, I'd have to go... I like to read the cards, so I give the right message. lol And for number 3, 7-11 is a 5 minute walk away, so I'd just get it myself. :-p

for sure such a service is a must. and for the rates cannot be the same if u shop by urself. but not a high rate also. a nominal rate varying between 4-10% above the cost is welcome. and depends on the number of items, total value and proximity between place of delivery and shipping. hope this idea is not a bad one.

Personally? I dont think so.
A sick child , I would probably bring to the hospital if it was really a very bad cough.
For the nephew with the birthday party- I will give cash. Recently, I had the misfortune to be told that nobody expects gifts anymore, not even for a wedding. Everybody prefers cash please.
Milk? I say Ill suck it up and wait till the morning.

The whole thing boils down to how much I can live without something. Most of us will make do with whatever we can improvise with what we have.

If I dont have milk for breakfast cereal in the morning, I will make toast and orange juice or powdered chocolate milk.

I can see how a service like that would be helpful but honestly with the wear and tear on your car, cost of gas plus the price of the product you probably would have to charge too much for the average person too use. I can't imagine a service like that being very affordable. But if it did exist and it was important and affordable I would use it on occasion. There have been a few times when getting in the car to go out was very difficult and it would have been nice.

As long as it wasn't outrageously expensive, sure, I'd use it if the situation called for it. There's an organic market in my city that delivers your groceries right to your door. I'm looking forward to using it.
