Why do we need to tell customer service/operator about our sickness in order to make appointment w/ a doctor?

Isn't it awful that everytime we want go to the doctor office/clinics, they have to ask us why do we want to see a doctor, what sickness do we have. I mean we are not doctors, how do we know about our sickness? That's why we want go to a doctor to get analysis and cure. By the way, it's a patient privacy right. Only doctors or nurses can get that information, not the operator/customer service.
Do you agree? What do you think?

Personally, I dont want to know why you are coming in. We are required by the office/clinic to get this information so that we will allow the correct amount of time to schedule your appointment. Say if you are coming in for a cold, I might allow 15 minutes, but if you are coming in for a fracture or a lesion removal, I would allow 45 minutes or more. It is not that we are being nosey, it is part of our job to "try" to keep the doctors on schedule. If it is something "personal" that you do not wish to discuss with the receptionist, just tell her this. Thanks, Hope this is helpful.

You don't have to. Ever since they have enforced the patient privacy rights all you have to say when you call the Dr office is, "I have medical matter in which I would like to see the Dr. I would prefer not to disclose why I need to be seen." Leave it at that, if they press tell them they are violating you right to patient privacy.

PS. If they work there and handle the finances, or paperwork, there probably gonna know ehy your there anyway.
