All civilian supporters of the Iraq war: Why isn't it important enough for you to join the service?

Just curious. I mean, if you think it's such a great cause...why not join up? The services are stretched kind of thin, and I'm
not sure why. I mean, surely they could use some bright Answerers who are utterly dedicated to the cause.

If it's important enough for you to support putting someone else's life on the line, why aren't you down there at the recruiter's office right now?

Don't tell me: pilonidal cyst, just like Rush. Bum knee like Pat Buchanan, which was good enough to get him a draft deferment but not bad enough to stop him jogging in later years. In college for a job that pays better than an E-1 (or O-1) makes?

What is keeping you from donning the uniform and fighting this war you think is so critical, civilian war supporters?

P.S. Did my 20 years and retired, thanks for asking.

"Chainsaw": How much are you willing to bet on your belief that I didn't serve?

Shlt! just imagine! if the opposed were brought back and all the supporters enlisted and went to the war, wouldn't some folks that oppose it start supporting it just to keep those right-wing nuts busy and away?

Let's name it the "Fox audience paradox"

I already did my war.

I'm not old enough.

The only service the chickenhawks would join is the Salvation Army, not the real Army.

I would not qualify. Injuries from a car accident that someone else caused. The services are not stretched thin. They consistently hit their recruitment goals.

I am not putting anyone's life on the line by supporting war. Those who serve sign up of their own free will. They know what they are getting into.

I do not believe you served. No real man would act the way you do. That is why these comments are reserved for liberals.

I support the troops, but I don't support the war. I don't think that cesspool is worth ONE American life!

I always wonder how long we would be in war if all the lawmakers in Washington had to send their sons and daughter into harms way.

I can't, I'm 58. Both of my parents were world War II veterans of the Army Air Corps, I did spend 14 months in Vietnam on a firebase just off Highway 13 in 1967-68, and my eldest grandson is a PFC in the Marine Corps right now so I guess you can say that we do stand up for what we believe in. So tell me, when did you lose faith in your Country and go over to the dark side?

FROM SOMEONE THAT DID 23 YRS IN THE USMC...RETIRED..."PS...DID MY "20"..RETIRED AS A GUNNEY...USMC..I PUT MY TIME IN......DONT QUESTION ME OR M Y SERVICE...
SEMPER FI..

I was in the U.S. Army for 4 years and I am very proud of my service unlike you, obviously. My brother is serving in Iraq right now. He has another 6 months to go and I am very proud of him, as I am of every soldier, Marine, Airman, and Sailor serving right now.

I support the troops, the President and the mission.

Because I'm not old enough yet. Once I graduate high school I'm joining the Army to fight for this war.

The military is having a hard time getting enough people to join up and fight around the world. Maybe we could restart the draft and then only take those who support the war in Iraq.

For all posters advocating that President Bush's children enlist in the military. It's not going to happen, especially since both children are women and there has been enough problems with women in the war zone like with Jessica Lynch and the woman sailor held captive last month by the Iranians. If Bush's daughters are being held up as examples, don't forget to mention Chelsea Clinton or Amy Carter (although Amy is a bit too old. If John Kerry had been elected, would these same persons calling for Bush's daughters to serve demand that Kerry's two daughters enlist? I think not. In addition it would be just plain stupid to have the offspring of the president serving on the front lines. They would be targeted by the enemy and what leverage the enemy would have if these women were captured and held as hostages. They could demand much and likely receive it (up to a point). I understand that Prince Harry is serving in the middle east. However, he is not the direct heir but still...

It is much easier to support when you know your butt will never be exposed to enemy gunfire. I served my time too and quite frankly I feel we need a draft. If our moronic leaders need a war then every American should be drafted when they turn 18 for a 2 year period. With a draft the war will end within 3 months as mothers will take to the streets and demand the moronic leaders end the engagement.
