Amended tax return question?

The numbers on the forms I have from my tax service don't add up with my W2's so if I get my return amended to show what I should have got will the irs send me a check. The financial services office needed me to do this and I had no idea that the lady that did my return for 2006 short changed me ya know cause the numbers went from 4,674, for my wages, to 7,140 so what should I do?

If not all your income is on the return you filed, then you should file an amended return with the correct income.

Do not assume that you will get a check. You might get a check, owe money, or there will be no difference. This depends on what was withheld from your wages, your filing status, and if you are eligible for Earned Income Credit.

File Form 1040X showing the corrected wages etc.

Depends on your filing situation for that year could be that you got back more than you were suppossed to get and now owe them money plus interest. Do the amendment and send it in asap if you owe. If your getting back money after the amendment you'll have to send it in as a paper return which will take forever being that it's a previous year and they will send you your refund and don't expect to have any interest added to it on their part.

If you are independent, the tax bill should not go up.
If you were a dependent, you could owe if there isn't any additional withholding.
