Help postal service question?

hey everyone,
This is my first time trying to send a letter through the mail out of state and im not sure how to. I want to send a letter out of state. Do I need to put it in out of town or out of state? what is the differences between the two?
How much postage do I need? Can I do it at a mail box? or do I need to go to the post office?

Any and all help MUST appreciated

Thanks!
Merry Christmas to everyone

I also need to know. Can I put a OUT OF STATE letter into a mail box thats on a random street OR do I HAVE to go to the post office?

Out of town means within the state where u're living. Out of state means within the whole US. If you put it in the wrong box it will arrive to its destination. What happens if you you place an in-state letter in an out-of-state box is that the letter will go to the out-of-state department that will get all the mail ready to be sipped out of state. Then the PO will find an in-state letter in the out-of-state mail and re-send to in-state mail. So as u see it will arrive, it's just faster if you put it in the right box. If you If you mean International then you need to go to the post office during business hours. All mail sent within US can be sent after hours if the post office has an automated mailing machine and your letter/package fits in the box. You can enter type of the mail ur sending like letter or package, enter the zip code it's going to and the type of service like priority, parcel post, first class etc, then it will calculate its weight and print you the postage once u have paid. Very convenient but take only ccard payments.

It's all the same anymore.
If you send a letter to your neighbor or to someone across the country, it all goes to the same processing plant to get 1) post marked, 2) barcoaded and 3) sorted and distributed back the the delivering post office.

You can't put it in just anyone's box without their permission, but you can put it in yours to go out, or you can put it in a blue mail drop box and it will be picked up.

good luck
