How Can I Ask For Help Treating Depression At College?

I am a young college student and I am certain that I'm afflicted with depression. It's not severe at all, but I do feel that is has hindered my academic performance the past couple of semesters, including this one. I'd like to ask for help at the campus student health services office, but I don't have medical insurance or any other kind of insurance coverage. Has anyone out there gone through the same situation? If so, can you please of your expierences? I'd really appreciate knowing that others out there can relate. Thank you!

I had the same problem in college and I went to the health center and seeing a therapist there was free. I'm not sure if it is the same at your college but at mine it was covered by our health fee.

It was really awful, I remember that I was lonely and frustrated and it was kind of difficult because you just wanna be normal like everyone else but you get this nagging... depression that just won't go away.

Please check out your health center, they may have free of charge therapy or at least group meetings to help you meet up and get support from others in the same situation.

Just go to the campus clinic, if there is one. Otherwise see an academic counselor and ask if they have any recommended counselors (psychological) that you can see. If they don't have specifics, they'll be able to point you in the right direction, most likely.

Don't worry about the insurance at the clinic. Go in and explain your situation. They'll help you get the help you need from someone willing to work with you on paying for the services at reduced rates or for free.

It's all in the health fee you pay every semester. I'm going through depression too and I'm planning on seeing someone soon... Good luck
