Getting married in church?

Me and my partner are planning to marry we would like to marry in the church where we grew up i lived there for 17 years and he was baptistised and attended sunday school there as a child but we were told that we have to marry in our parish church which im not happy with .Is there anything i can do apart from go for registry office service

apperently i can aplly for a spicial lisecense from the arch bishop of canterbury

Move house! Or lie about where you live.

Surely you will know someone who lives in the area. Tell the church you are staying / living with them.

I know this is very very dishonest but it seems stupid that you cant get married where you want because of this.

You could simply rent the church for the ceremony.

See if the church you want to marry in will let you attend for a for a while, to become a regular of the parish sometimes opens up opportunities....

We wanted a different church and had to attend each sunday for 6 MONTHS......it was worth it in the end though...!!

Also, if your family still live there, give them your families address instead....I KNOW, thats cheating, but just say 15 hail mary's and keep your fingers crossed..!!

my parents got married in a church not in their parish it was where realtives were buried, grandparents and her sister married, all they had to do was attend the services there for a year.

i thought you could marry in any church as long as you go each sunday for a few weeks before the wedding, have you spoke to the vicar im sure he/she would let you

I would recommend you talk to the pastor of the church you want to get married in about this situation. You shoud be able to get married where ever you want. You are being joined in Holy Matrmony before God. It is not your parents who are joining you, so its your choice. For all the Blessings to flow for a long and happy marraige, it must be decided on and agreed on between your spouse and yourself.
Good luck and God Blss you as you two join as one.

The law on marriage states you have to marry in the Parish of either of the couple, or, if you are going for a civil wedding, it has to be in the Register Office for the district or borough where either of the couple lives.
As a registrar has to be present to register the marriage, then you have to be married in the district where you live.
This is not the vicar in the parish you grew up in being difficult! Marriages in church without a registrar are not recognised in civil law. This is also why, for instance, Hindus might have a wedding in their temple, but have to have a separate ceremony in the local registry office.
The only way round this, as you have found, is to get a special licence. I'm sure lots of people do it.

in the eyes of the church you can get married in the church of the parish where you live of the church you attend.

i had this problem and as long as you are on the church's electoral roll (which you can get on by attending the church a certain number of times) you can marry there!!!

i was living in the next town and me & my partner we're christened so the vicar told us at least one of us would have to be christened anywhere and attend his church over 5 times in 6 months to be married there

i'd speak to the vicar again

We had the same problem.
There are 3 options really..
1: Give someones address who lives in the parish (ie mum's)
2: Attend the church regularly for 6 months.
3: Go visit the church man (can't remember his name.. vicar etc..), he must give his approval and then you can apply for a special licence (cost's 拢140 (or 拢240)) - this is what we have done.
We are in the same circumstances as you and our licence has just been granted.

To get a special licence it says you must have a long standing connection with the church.. which you seem to.

u do not need to marry in the parish that u r in the now u can marry in any parish that u want too so dont listen to people, go and speak to the priest or vicar of that church and have the day that u want

I thought you were able to marry where you wanted to get married at. Well just speak with the priest and see what you can do to go around it.

If you are Catholic, a lot of churches will let you marry outside your parish if you have a letter from your home parish. If they refuse to give you one, then that is probably not an option.

There are a few more liberal Catholic priests who will marry you at other locations.

Unless you are wanting the mass too, you may be able to find a church that will let you have just the sacrament there.
