First day on new job?

Hi, Need advice... Tomorrow is my first day on a new job. I will be working in the service dept office... any advice? I have met no one there except for management. Just some advice... Im nervous as all hell :( I dont wanna make a fool of myself.

Just be yourself, be friendly, say hello to everyone you come across, but do not be overeager. It may be perceived as being fake. Wear something conservative that doesn't draw unwanted attention. Be humble, its your first day there and I'm sure you'll have to learn the ropes or the way things are handled there. Don't be too open with your personal business. Try to remain neutral. Hope you enjoy your day. Good luck!!

Be friendly, smile and try very hard to remember everyone's name whom you meet. Ask lots of good questions and whatever you do, DO NOT start offering suggestions on how to improve the place or start telling people what they are doing wrong in their jobs. They will hate you then. Just be friendly and all will go well. Best of luck in your new job.

Congratulations! Just relax, and focus on the person/s you are talking with. Ask them questions about themselves (people love talking about themselves) and before you know it, you will have a new friend or two at work.

Bring your sense of humor, and do not forget to take deep breaths (it will make you more relaxed and you will feel better). You will do great.

Best wishes.

First of all - RELAX. Just be yourself, that is why you were hired. Remember that you are not going to like everyone there and some may not like you - get over it. That's life. Some may even be threatened by you. Oh, well.

Remember to LISTEN. Ask only pertinent questions. LISTEN, take notes if appropriate.

Enjoy. (A smile goes a long way - whether you are male or female.)

Oh, firm handshakes are definitely in order. Simply shows confidence. Practice on someone. The inside of the thumb (curvature) should meet the other person's similar area. (Full handshake, no wimp of just the fingers.)

Good luck.
