Can you run for public office while servicing in the Navy on Active Duty?

I'm considering running for public office in Texas, and I am Active Duty Navy. Is there anything that prohibits or prevents this? I have searched the internet and have not come up with anything.

I checked the UCMJ as best as I could and could not find anything at all reguarding this issue. Can anyone else provide any insight? Thanks!

Generally, the answer is no. However, there are exceptions. You should read DoD Directive 1344.10.
