Is there even a chance of reaching for a University of California?

At my school , in order to enroll in AP course or/and accelerated classes but no offical Honors courses exist, you have to take a test. During my freshmen and sophmore year, i consecutively made it into English accelerated and during sophmore year i additionally made it into World History and Geography. my GPA at this point=3.6

My junior year won't be a challenging year for me since i didn't make it to any AP classes i took the test for.
Since it won't be a challenging year , i was planning to enroll in East Los Angeles Community College , taking Psycology on Saturdays. Should i pick another course instead?

I recently joined a youth council that is out of school and i discovered this club when i was doing community service at the office that sponsors it. I have been in CSF since freshmen year , a social/community service all girls club (off campus) since sophmore year and that's about it. I had my own newsletter in my community, but the director never had time to run it through

It depends on which UC you choose. Generally the top 4 UC's are a bit harder to get in, while the rest are pretty easy. If you live in-state (CA) then I think you have a better chance. Also, your GPA seems better than average. Be sure to do well on your SAT and participate in many extracurricular activities. It seems that you've already added some, so thats good. If you don't plan on going to a UC right after HS, and want to go to community college thats a good choice as well. You save money on the first two years while learning the same thing as those who are attending their 1st and 2nd years at UC's. I think you won't have a problem getting into a UC...maybe Merced or Riverside or SC. You'll do fine.

Yes, there is a very good chance. You have many activities and your grades are good, just keep them up and do well on the SAT.

You can accomplish any goal you desire if you work at it - never let anyone hold you back.

Take care and good luck.

Yes, but as a transfer in and many people do that

Pretty much sounds like you could get into any college you wanted. You won't be sure until you apply (some majors might be very competitive), but I'd say a 3.6 and community service gets you wherever you want.

Hello there, It sounds like you are really smart and you have alot of activities. Be careful that you aren't wearing youself too thin.

Now, I think you should ask yourself..."What can I get from University of California that I cannot get from another college, maybe a smaller college, with, great teachers, great course offerings, but less rigourous entrance requirements.?"

While UC is sort of a "holy grail" for many California high school students (and students across the US) professors and course offerings are not different than courses offered at other universities. And, professors who went to UC teach all over the USA, so if there was anything unique and special being offered at UC, you can get it at about any college where professors who graduated from UC teach. You get what I'm saying?

I just think as a young and gifted person, you should be focusing on being happy and not stressing about trying to get into a school which may accept you, but will most likely not appreciate or value you as a student.

Because it is supposed to be the easiest UC to get into (because it is new), I looked at UC Merced to get a feel for whether or not you have a chance. A 3.6 is an okay GPA, but it is not stellar, and you haven't given any test scores, so it is hard to know how you might do on the SATs. They state that 96% of the students admitted were within the top 10% of their graduating casses. Because you didn't get into any of the AP classes, I'm afraid that you probably don't fit into this. Therefore, I would assume that unless your SAT score is really strong, you won't get in as a freshman (they look at activities, but it isn't one of the more important factors that they list).

As far as taking Psychology at East L.A. College, you could do that if you are bored, but I'm not sure that it will help you much. If you take it, just make sure that it doesn't make it harder to get As in your other classes.

There is no shame in being a transfer student, and it looks like that is where you may end up.

3.6? You're fine. Just work on your SAT. The UCs are more about numbers than anything else, despite what they're spouting about extra currics and "reviewing the application as a whole". You get the numbers, you'll be fine. In any case, you're doing just fine in the extra curric part for UCs.

Since your school makes it so tough to take AP classes, you're doing the right thing by taking courses at the local CC. What's wrong with Psych? It's a legit class you're taking at the "college" level. There's an AP Psych test so there's nothing wrong with Psych. I like it as a way to ease into the more advanced courses because Psych is one of the easiest subjects there is.

To help you feel better, I made it to the mid level UCs with a 3.17 (or something like that) UC GPA. Yes, far lower than average. However, I made it up with my SAT. It's all about numbers. My extra currics weren't exactly impressive.
