Single mom needs to figure out what i want to go to school for to end up in a semi profitable part time career |
i am a highly intelligent individual yet i havent challecged myself to leran anything new since taking early childhood development classes... i want to gain the skills necessary to find a decent career where a can work 30 hours or so a week when my child starts school.....i would like to end up working at home, but could pull off 20-30 hours per week....i could go and get a degree....but in what? i need ideas ...i dont want to short change myself or my child by ending up in food service, retail, or office temp Since you want to work from home, why not go for a generic degree in business and then choose a minor, like accounting, budgeting & finance, etc. later. It will give you more career choices. Computer Programming or Paralegal Studies are good choices. I applied as a substitute teacher's assistant at my kid's school. Be a Registered Nurse, it is one of the best jobs right now because of baby boomers/ all the technical advances, you only have to go to school for an associates degree so it won't require you to have high grades or lots of money. My mom is a RN, she dropped out of high school with bad grades, got her GED, went to a community college and then worked. She had the first of her five kids at the age of 17. You can work nights and get paided atleast $5 extra, they consist of 12 or 8 hour night shifts therefore you can be home during the day for your child. What ever you do make sure it makes you happy. If it doesn't, it won't matter if you work 20 hrs.,or 80 hrs. It will still make for a miserable life. |
