Has anyone found their calling in life?

Why do I feel like the 1% of the population who is just drudging through life? I have a college degree in social science and I should have went to law school but the price of a law degree. Ouch! I went to college to quit being a bellhop in a hotel for 15 years. Guess what Im still a bellhop! I'm in my late 30's and I want to find another career that has some prestige and is satisfying. I know office work and administration jobs are very low on my interest scale. I would hate working in a office.
Whereas, personal service, writing, and teaching are my strengths--but most jobs in these fields are low paying. Good jobs would be flight attendant, actor, and politician. I know bellhop is a personal service job thats why i stay --its fun job. But its no career for someone with a college degree. I thought of going into politics? But I dont have serious money. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want something middle paying, prestigous, professional, and in public eye. No office jobs!

Don't be like these lazy SOBs that talk about there dreams for 50 years and never act, be a man of action, confidence, charisma, live your life with passion If you do this and never lose respect you will get the prestige and more than a middle paying job

My brother is a social worker. It's not prestigious, but tremendously rewarding. It's not too much of an office job, pays ok, and in the public eye on a lesser scale. I'm sure you know of this b/c of your degree...

I was the same way. I had a bs degree in business mgmt. and wasn't happy. I always said I didn't want to know what I wanted to be when I grew up. Well, after several menial jobs I had just to survive, I think I finally found my calling. It was just by accident that I am getting into ems work. I am now (at 42) just getting into the class room to get my state certification. I can't imagine working in an office setting. Its a great feeling knowing you can save a life. Good Luck.

Well the question is, you need to find what you like to do. Theirs a lot of careers out there that you probably never heard of. Example, if you like catching bad guys, in solving crimes. A career in law enforcement and CSI can help you do that. If you like to work mainly with people then you should find a career in business. But it doesnt matter what you do its if you like doing it. So i really dont know what you like to do and you know that answer, once you find that answer then you can research and find the job or career you like to do.

Get into the medical field- I am an xray tech, it's interesting, exciting, (sometimes gross) but you deal with new situations and people every day. IIt's a job that;s not for everyone, if you work in a hospital you go to the operating room, and to traumas in the ER, you work closely with doctors. The studies require a lot of physics and anatomical knowledge.2 years of schooling, pass your boards, off you go.

In my understanding good job for you is that give high compensation. As for me good job is the one that you love doing best. From there you can associate it with innovations to earn more. Some kind of a challenge to yourself. As a social science graduate I believe you have lot of ways to mingle with people at your advantage. Make more contacts that need your expertise. Not yet. I had an office job for 14 years and finally had enough. I saved for as long as i could and quit. I was always bored, fidgety, and felt like a caged animal in the cubicle/office hell. I am going back to school to get another degree but still undecided. It will certainly not be another office job though, and most likely will be my own business.

I don't have much advice for you except that you are actually part of the majority--not the 1%. Just enjoy life. If you enjoy teaching I would recommend trying it...get a teaching certificate and go for it. Teachers can actually be paid pretty good but that really shouldn't be the motive of finding a job. Don't let the job become your life rather let it support the life you already have. If you are creative you don't need much money to enjoy life. Good luck.
