Help with computers?

i asked how to make my computer faster and most people said that i should go to START>RUN and type MSCONFIG, then START UP TAB to disable nonessential programs when starting my computer. WHAT NONESSENTIAL PROGRAMS SHOULD I DISABLE?

these are the ones listed: ehtray, SynTPLpr, SynTPEnh, remind_xp, RECGUARD,atiptaxx, WLTRAY,qttask, MSKDtct, ashDisp, services, NA, Bigfix, service manager,and microsoft office. which ones should i disable?

and another question: should i uninstall BIGFIX and ATI? what are those things?

a better way and a more user friendly way to stop programs from starting up is to use advanced windows care personal. It tells you what each thing does that is starting up.

ATI probably has something to do with your video card. If you need to know what files you can disable, copy and paste the exact name in a search engine like google (sorry yahoo). You will find a good explanation of what the files does and then decide to remove it.

mannn dont disable jack or uninstall anything that YOU personally didnt install.

Here's what you do, first go into "My Computer" right click on the C: drive and choose properties, it should show you a pie chart of total and free space. If you are seeing more blue than pink that could be your problem right there, too many large files on your computer such as music and videos.

If you have more pink than blue, try defragmenting it by clicking on tools and then disk defragmenter.

Also, when was the last time you checked for spyware? or are you running a good internet security program?

How much memory (ram) do you have installed? that can be found by right clicking on "MY Computer" and choosing properties and looking down in the bottom right hand corner of the window, it will tell you there. anything below 128MB is too low to run today's programs, I wouldnt reccomend anything under 512MB to be honest.

Don't be afraid........You really cannot mess things up that bad from going to the Startup tab and unchecking things. BigFix......Sounds like something to get rid of. ATI is your video card, so keep that checked.

Two options you have here........uncheck everything and restart your computer and then go back and recheck the ones that you want to start.

Or uncheck things one at a time and restart, more time consuming this way. If after restarting you are not missing something that you want, then uncheck the next item and so on........

Basically, you want to make sure that your antivirus is not shut off..........I would also leave that ATI program on at startup.

You better be carfull what you disable if you don't know what
you are disabling it is ok if you know what it runs.
If you are not on DSL get on it that will make it faster
The next best thing is add you another member board
to your computer. You jusr have to match it with the one
in your computer. Take the side off and get the numbers
off the one that is in it .
It is a little long board that pluge in.
It will double your speed.
The member board in your computer don't have enough
space on it for it to run fast it hast to take a program out and put it some where else in order to run the programs.
It is like having a pan full apples and you wanted to put another
one in it you wood have to take one out and put it some else
in order to add it. A computer is the same way.
