What are the general responsibilities of a restaurant buser?

I'm thinking about applying as a buser at a local place since I have no experience in the food service industry (only done office related jobs so far) and I assume that it requires the least amount it. What exactly should I expect to be doing besides clean tables and the like? Any info is appreciated, really.

You will be scraping plates, stacking dirty dishes and silverware and bringing it to the kitchen. You will also be responsible for clearing the table, washing the table and setting the table for the next guests. If you plan to stay in the food service industry or work at a full service hotel, this will give you valuable training. You can work your way up to being a waiter. And a really good waiter can make a ton in tips. I have a friend that makes over $50,000 a year as a waiter in a nice restaurant. He has a high school education and a great personality. Not fake, just nice. He started just for fun and has never left because he can make more being a waiter than finishing college.

clean tables take dishes back to the kitchen. store the back with stock. and do it fast

cleaning tables restocking and setting table for next client. giving tip to appropriate waitress.

Some general responsibilities of a buser are; to make sure that tables are cleaned up after customers leave the restaurant. At some restaurants, busers go around to tables taking away dirty plates from customers tables. Busers make sure that the dirty dishes are taken to the back where they get washed at.

Bussers generally serve water and bread to tables, clear plates after each course, and serve coffee. They also assist servers and other members of the front and back of the house staff. Bussers may also polish silverware or glassware. In a fine dining restaurant a busser may also be referred to as a backwaiter.

If you are under the legal serving age, bussing is a great way to make money and learn about the restaurant business. You can quickly move from there into serving or bartending. Restaurant experience is ALWAYS good to have because you can fall back on it later if your first career choice doesn't pan out or if you move to a new town and need a cash job in a hurry.
