Ive got a dell e501 and was wondering which disk i need in reformatting?

i got three disk with the system! microsoft office professional enterprise edition, and microsoft office professional enterprise edition (service pack1). which one of these will be the main disk? im not sure if these disk have the windows xp on them or not?

It should be a Dell System Restore Disc.
Not any of the ones you've mentioned.

you need the system repair disk or something to that nature. The microsoft office disks are installers for ms office only. I'm sure both have no windows xp on them

You can buy a Microsoft disc, or make one yourself.

By the way, the first guy's answer is correct. None of those discs mentioned will help you reformat.

well, the names are for Office '07. So then, there is no telling what is what. Go into one of the discs and look for the folder like "WINDOWS". There is no other way to tell what disk is what. Also look at size, there is no way to install XP on anything less than 1 Gb. When in doubt start from new, or try a live Linux distro (Knoppix, PClinuxOS)
