POST OFFICE JOB: Is there really a $100 fee for study materials?? Saw an ad in the paper and called the 800#?

They claim you'll get a refund of the money (w/ S+H, it's actually $119.45) if you don't get hired by the postal service. I refused to pay the money on the spot b/c I wanted to think about it. I told her I didn't think anyone was supposed to pay money to be hired by ANY company, and she smoothly said it was to weed out the ones who were not really interested in working for the post office, and to give the advantage to the ones who have the study materials. Does this sound right to you?

I have worked at the Post Office twice in the last 33 years.
I have taken the test for mail-handlers in 1973, the clerk/carrier test in 1974. I quit the PO and decided to go back in 1999. I took the test again.
Never did I have to pay to buy any study books or take a course. It is a moneymaker for that company, which has nothing to do with the Postal Service.

If I remember correctly the clerk/carrier test is something like this...
They will have a speaker give instructions such as "If 5 is less than six and 7 is greater than 4 put a check mark in box A, but if 5 is less than 6 and 7 is not greater than 4 put a mark in box C". They are just testing to see if you comprehend the question and can follow directions.

In another part they will give you a list of about 25 addresses in 5 groupings, and tell you to study the groupings that they are in. They may be something like a street name, town name, numbers, etc.
They will do a few practice rounds. You will then be given a sheet with those addresses and must put down the group that particular address is in like group 1, group 2, and so on. You don't have to answer every question, because they do not deduct for non answers, only incorrect answers.

Yeah its a rip off dont do it. I just applied(through the www.usps.com website) and they will be sending me my package(for free) so I can prepare for the exam and also they will have the day i take my exam and all of that. All it took was a few moments of my time and thats all. Report It

Don't buy it, it's a scam.

Ask someone at your local PO who is in the title that you want how they prepared for the exam. That way you will know for sure.
