Incorrect criminal background report? |
So I applied for this apartment in Houston about a month ago. I figured that they'd call me in a few hours and let me know that I was approved and what my next steps were in order to move in. WELL, the next day the leasing office calls me and tells me that they cannot rent this apartment to me because of my criminal background record. I asked them what they could possibly be talking about since I've never been in ANY kind of trouble before, and they informed me that my record has an extreme amount of felonies and convictions on it. So I contacted the company that provided this "background report" and requested a copy of it. Sure enough, it comes back with 13 felonies and convictions, arrests, etc. Everything from prostitution to drug trafficing to battery!!! I got a lawyer, wrote them a letter and disputed it all. I told them that they have 30 days to update it and correct it, and basically REMOVE everything on there. My lawyer said that if they don't fix EVERY SINGLE item on my background report that we will take them to court and sue the **** out of them. I was just notified that they sent me the responding letter today. We did not inform them of the possible lawsuit. What are the chances that this company (Realpage-that's the name of the company) fixes everything? if this is a big time background search company im sure theyll fix at soon as possible because they dont want bad pr. u could sue them just to get them to stop messing up other peoples chances of leasing or buying a home. |
