Rent Payment mailing it out, Am I oK?

My Rent is due on the first and today is the 31st. I live in Nj and my Landlord lives in PA if I mail out the check Today and it gets there by the 2nd I should be ok right? I just woke up and the post office closed otherwise I would have done it sooner

Go ahead and stick it in the mail, AFTER calling your landlord and informing them of your dilemma. I'll bet they'll be happy you called instead of just letting it go.

Hopefully they won't ask you to wire the money to them or anything, and maybe if their a big enough organization you'll be able to pay with a credit card over the phone - but do so at your own risk.

Usually there is a 5 day grace period, just for this reason.

A lot of people believe that the rent can actually be given on the 5th. This is wrong. The rent is due on the 1st.

I agree with CFP. If you have a good payment history, I see no reason why you would be harmed by a rare late payment. I've been paying bills for a long time, and the few times that I have paid late, I've called the person or organization I am paying and let them know. Not once have I ever been penalized for a late payment, but I'm sure it's because my payment history is good.

If you are habitually late, then my feeling is that it would be a different story. Of course in the future my advice would be to do your best to make your payments on time.

A good plan that I eventually got in to was to pay my bills as soon as they came in. That way, they didn't sit around, and I didn't have to worry about paying them on time. It take a little getting used to it and getting your budget adjusted for it, but once you do I'm sure you will be happy with that system. Hope this helps.
