Should I get a discount on my rent?

My situation is as follows- In December, I starting hearing a "running" noise in my walls. I kind of ignored it. Mid January, I woke up to what I later discovered to be a flying squirrels staring back at me. I was able to chase it out of my apartment. I reported the incident to the leasing office, but they were very unhelpful. At this time, they told me that the squirrel had come through the front door. A week later, I see another squirrel in my kitchen. After the county animal control took a look, a hole behind the stove was discovered. Mind you the apt mgmnt still does not believe that I actually saw squirrels in my apt. The apt mgmnt. patched the hole and finally hired "experts", and after a week of being in the leasing office daily, they had the experts to put out "traps" in the bldg attic. After a week of still hearing running and scratching, the experts put some traps in a closet where I hrd the squirrels. So far, he has caught 2 in a week, and there is 1 or 2 in the closet now.

No, there is no squirrel discount!

I have never heard of them entering a house, but it sounds like they need to not only catch them, but check the roof and figure out how they are getting in.

I would ask for a different apt or move

I think as long as they have taken an active approach (Patching the holes, laying traps) that you technically could not ask for discounted rent, however, I would ask for the option of early termination of the lease. The squirrels have a home somewhere in that building and it doesn't sound like your landlord has found it yet!

I wouldn't you would probably get evicted!
