Good neighborhoods near Del Mar?

I am moving to the San Diego area and I want to live in or near Del Mar. My office is located in Del Mar just east of interstate 5. What would be a good neighborhood to rent a house with an easy commute? We are hoping we can get something for under $2200 per month (ideally less, of course). Is that realistic?
Thanks in advance!

You may want to look in Del Mar, La Costa, or Encinitas. You will probably find a condo for $2200/mo.

It also depends on what you consider a reasonable drive. I5 is one of the busiest highways and there will always be traffic.

I lived in Mira Mesa and drove to Del Mar and it was like a 45 minute drive...

Del Mar is about as nice of an area as you will find. Next on the list might be Solona Beach or Cardiff. But it will be pricey.

You may want to look into north county areas like Carlsbad, San Marcos, or Leucadia if you like the beach

Here's a link that can give you excellent info on any neighborhood, dining, entertainment etc. It's The Reader. A local free magazine that is the best source of information about san diego you'll find. When you move here you will become a weekly reader I'm sure.

You could definitely rent a two bedroom condo, maybe three bedrooms for that much in the Del Mar/Carmel Valley area. Prolly not a house, though.

del mar

For under $2200 you can get about a townhome with about 1200 sq. feet in Carmel Valley. If you want a house for that price and don't want a long commute, you are going to have to go East. A reasonable commute with housing in that price range would be Mira Mesa or Clairemont Mesa, though you will want to avoid the houses that are really close to Mira Mesa Blvd. and Clairemont Mesa Blvds. themselves. But if you go into the residential neighborhoods a few blocks from the main streets, the housing gets nicer.
