I had to edit this question that was asked already....sorry!?

My boyfriend was charged with aggravated battery about 10 years ago, but said the charges were dropped. I am trying to get him added to my lease on my apartment. He said he has bad credit too. I did call the complex office a few weeks ago about adding him. They just said they look for criminal history when checking credit. Will he be declined with the bad credit and the dropped charges 10 years ago if he is just being added to my lease? i have been here 3 years, good credit and pay rent on time, no problems, ect...

If the charges were dropped there is no record of them.

I doubt you will have a problem, he has no record and they already know you pay the rent.

personally I wouldn't add him to your lease because if you break up he could force you out of the apartment since his name is on the lease. Usually they won't check as far back as 10 years but there is also the chance that it could show up. They are checking his credit to basically see if he can afford to be there and pay rent incase you move out. Chances are he might get declined so be prepared. Is it mandatory he be put on your lease if he moves in? Could he have lived there and management not even known about it? If he was seen there just say he's staying overnight and not actually living there.

Most places are looking for convictions, not merely arrests.

But as a landlord, I'd find it a bad combination--bad credit and an arrest record. AND it would violate my lease if he moved in without being on lease, or if he stayed their more than 14 days during the year.

Credit matters! Fix your credit. Make good choices. Pay your bills every month. STop spending money you don't have.
