Im 16 and a high school grad can i move out?

i graduated from high school and im 16 i work full time at a doctors office and i have transpertation and a place lined up for rent but everytime that i start packin my ma start sayin that i can leave legally!!! can i? i live in south carolina

No, you are not 18. The only thing that can get you on your own is getting emancipated by the courts.

Well I hate to see someone like yourself needing to move out at that age, to answer the question I would call the police Dept of a city near yours. That way you can get a real answer without being the in jurisdiction of the policeman you're talking to.

On the other hand if you really are determined. you can look into emancipation from your parents. Its like Divorcing your parents and relinquishing any rights they have to raise you.

In my opinon you may want to try first looking for a friend you could live with for 2 years until you are 18. It will give you a better start than having to pay rent by yourself for a few years.

According to the website I will put in my source, you are legally an adult in the state of South Carolina when you turn 18 or graduate from high school. I would do a bit more research, but if you can prove to a judge that you are self-sufficent and able to live on your own, your mom can't stop you from moving out. Good luck!

legally no your underage and your parents have legal custody and control over you for california the age of majority is 18

Unless you have a really bad home situation, just save your money while you don't have living expenses and move out when you're 18. (Honestly, I wouldn't rent to a 16 year old either). What about college? Stay in your parents place so you can focus on your studies and not have to worry about paying bills. Time goes by very quickly and you will be done before you know it AND you will still be under 21. That's AWESOME!
