If I pay my Rent, but hold off on paying my...?

Water bill, which is paid to the rent office, could they take out a portion from my rent and apply it to the water bill to cause my rent to be late, so that they may charge me $50.00 late fee? Thanks for your response in advance.

It really depends on what your rental agreement says, but if your rent includes utilities and you only pay a portion of your rent, then its still considered late. If they are listed as seperate items, then it shouldn't be late. Read your lease agreement and worse comes to worse, definately call your leasing off and let them know whats going on. People are more apt to help you out if you tell them whats going on instead of ignoring the issue and them.

I know that in all of the places that I've rented, the land-lords have found it easier to have the water in their name as opposed to each individual tenant in case there are any missed payments. After awhile, the water company may shut off your water if you're not paying them, and it's a major hassle around here to get them to come out and get your water turned on again, plus there's a fine and charge involved....it makes the whole bill/renter thing a little more complicated.

Definitely read your rental agreement. Make a copy of it and grab a highlghter too. Highlight, make notes and put in tabs, it'll help you save a lot of money in the long run.
