Does an out-of-home office qualify for a tax deduction for the office rent and tangent office expenses?

Does an out-of-home office qualify for a tax deduction for the office rent and tangent office expenses?

If you rent an office in order to produce income as a self-employed person, then those expenses would be deducted on Schedule C.

I have not encountered an employee who rented an away from home office. You would have to be renting this space for the convenience of your employer. I don't know of an instance where that would be the case, but I won't say it is impossible.

YES. If this is for your business income or investment then yes. It's better to have out of home vs in home. WIth in-home, you have to take a portion or percentage. With the out of home, ALL is pertaining to business.

Not quite sure what you're asking.

All income that you receive is taxable, and as such, all expenses that you incur trying to get that income are deductible, as far as businesses are concerned.

If you have a business in your home, or if your business office is in your home, the rules are a little different. For any of your household expenses to be deductible, you have to actually be conducting business there. If you have two offices, and one of them is in your home, your home office might not be considered an office at all.

I'd have to have more information, though, to tell you any more.

im a little confused as to where your "office" is.

if you are self employed and have a home office, you can deduct a certain % of your home expenses related to this office. for example, if you have 5 rooms in your home, one of them being the office ,you can deduct 1/5 or 20% of your normal home expenses like rent, utilities, etc.

if you rent office space for your business, the rent and any other business expenses you incur are fully deductible.

im assuming you are self-employed. in either case you'd file Schedule C of your 1040 to report these expenses.
