I have a business office at home. How do i pay the rent on it?

I have a business office at home. How do i pay the rent on it? Do i write the check out to me? my personal name or to the mortgage company? will it count at extra income on my perdonal taxes? .... i am just not sure exactly how to do it, can anyone help me?

My business is not a home business. I just use a room at my house as an office for storing all paperwork. I do all my billing using that room. I was told that it is perfectly legal to pay rent from the company for that room only.

The IRS have guidelines for how you can claim a home office deduction. It has become much harder to pass all of the IRS tests for a home business.
If you have an accountant you need to talk to him/her. If not you might try asking around for a referral.

In general, your business must be a separate legal entity. Then you can have the business pay rent to you. This also leads to more work as you are going to have file more tax paperwork for rental income on your personal taxes.

well i run a bizz from home due to the fact that it is a home bizz you should keep track of your bills if you can prove that you power has gone up x amount each mo. then you can use that as a tax right off you cant pay your self rent that is just dumb and can be seen as a fraud be cause you would right that off and income in some ways bu keep track of your spending for you biz and that will show your cost for you bizz per mo.
