Am I obligated to pay rent if the house is going up for Sheriff Sale in May? |
The landlord told me in November that he was 2 months behind on the morgage payment. He has been receiving the rent from the 2 appartments in the house. I just found out 3 days ago from the girl upstairs that all of this was happening. I live in PA. So, I went to the Sheriff's office to see if it is true and it is. They suggest I move before then. So, am I obligated to pay him rent any longer? i was in a similar situation and was told by a bank representative not to give the owner being foreclosed on any money. i never got in trouble for it. not to say it is really legal,but what can your landlord do,evict you,you probably will have to move at some point anyway. PA may be different. check this,just enter your location. Well, if you signed a lease, then you could be still held responsible. The landlord loosing the properties and your rent issue are seperate issues. If you get in the habit of expecting free rent because of someone elses problems, then you would continue blaming others for your own problems. A similar statement would be, "Do I have to pay taxes when a government official turned out to be corrupt?" The answer is yes, you do, and the corrupt government official will have to own up to his crimes. Keep paying rent because the place will probably be bought by a new landlord anyway. They have to give you time to move if thats what happens. You will not be kicked out by a sheriffs sale. You will just get a new landlord. |
