I`m moving in with my partner, what questions will be asked...?

by the rent office etc.
She`s on benefits, we have 3 children and a council house.I work full time and live with my parents but now i have a better paid job we want to become "legal" , so whats she going to lose, and what will the authorities want to know about me.
I`m worried they will start asking for money backdating to when the children were born and end up in financial ruin. We`re trying to get on our feet and live as a family but just dont have enough money.
Who`s been there and done that? Helpful advice please.

Law sucks in Uk for this when it suits the goverment you are classed as single ie pensions and when it suits them you are a couple.
In this instance you will be classed as a couple and by moving in you are now responsible for her and the children financially.
She will have to tell the social you have moved in and when money will stop from that date not before as you are not there yet.
You will have to pay full rent however there is only your income so you can apply for a rent rebate off the council and because of the three children and your partner you may get full rebate on rent and council tax.You will need wage slips for this and will be backdated to when you moved in.
You can apply for tax credit as you now have a family so that will get you etra money however it is means tested and will add it on to your wages and work it out with rent rebate.
If you pay any sort of pension ensure she is down as to get it because if something happens to you she wont.
All they will want to know is when you moved in and your income.
PS She will keep her family allowance only

the same has just happened to me and my partner we now have to pay full rent and you can claim working tax credit she will have most of her benefits stopped but will still gte her child benefit for the children i dont know exactly how much will get took off her as thye need to see your pay slips Good Luck

Go talk to citizens advice and ask them to do a better off calculation with you. They'll run through everything you will lose and what else you can claim like working tax credit. They will hopefully give you honest and straight forward advice and have the advantage fo being independent so you know you can trust them. You cuold also try the benefits office or jobcentre and tell them that youre thinking about doing this and they will be able to help.

If they are all your children, then you should have been paying for them from the day you started work or on their birthday.
If they are not, then you are only legally obliged to pay for her and yourself.
What you going to do,move out if it don`t work out,or money is short?
we are all struggling with this life and government demands as to what we have to pay,but the children have to be brought up and things have to be payed for.
I don`t have enough money either, nobody out there is going to cry and feel sorry for me or you.

Wow I cant believe how rude and heart less some people are that have replied!
Your doing the right thing and I no how hard it is we are renting a property and have a child. It will be hard work as you open a whole new window to bills! you will have to tell them everything you earn. If its not enough for your whole family to live off then they will give you housing and Council Tax Beneifits and will prob pay most of ur rent/Council Tax. They can take for ever so make sure you can afford it poss with out any help for at least two months!

Don't feel bad, there is alot of us in the same boat. We are just as scared as you are about not suriving becuase we are tired of having to lie. It will depend on how much you get paid and how much she gets paid(if she works), your income will be added together and so will the amount of ppl in your house hold. As far as having to pay back everything, don't tell them you lied. They could put you in jail. Are you listed as the children's father on their birth certificate? This might be too much to answer in a Q&A. There are too many factors.

As long as you have been living with your parents, apart from your partner, don't worry. Your partner will still get child benefit for the children but everything else will have to be reassessed as you will be claiming as a couple now. The authorities wont want to know anything about you except what your income is. There are lots of different reasons why couples live apart for a while, none of which is anybody's business but your own.
You will have to re apply for the benefits you think you will be entitled to as a couple. If you are successful, the benefits will start from the date on your application. Nothing will be backdated.
