Can a company rent a residential property for out-of-town executives?

Additionally, can a few local employees work from the property when the out-of-town executives are not in town?

I'm looking for clarification on the gray area between residential and commercial property use.

Assume that no more than 4 people will ever be at the apartment at a time. And that by commercial use, I mean sit on couches/desks and work from a laptop. I don't mean, set up a retail business, or have guests/clients/customers visit.

Extra points for tips on how to stay within the law, yet use a residential property (whose primary purpose is housing executives from out-of-town), to let local employees get some work done away from their standard desks at the office.

Or, to put it another way...

If a company has an apartment that goes unused most of the time -- perhaps occupied only 5-10 days a month -- is it lawful to be used during the rest of the month as a place for local employees (let's say 4 of them), to use the apartment as an off-site workspace/meeting room to get away from the traditional office?

And what particular laws / codes should we look into to verify this?

You would not be able to send them there to work. The house would have to be zoned for commercial work for that. It would not matter that you have them sitting on a couch instead of a desk. Even a home office only allows for one, the person who legally resides there to work from the property.

yes, however be expected to be checked on regularly that
the house is used mainly for that purpose, or you can't pay
for it thru the business.
