I don't want to rent any more. A single family home if I can afford it. But, were should I move to?

Now I live in Manhatten New york. I want to be able to commute approximately 1-21/2 hours. It has to be inexpensive but in a good location with a good school district, nice neighborhood. In walking distance to the grocery store, bank, post office, cleaners, a hardware store and transportation. But yet the house has to be in a private, quite, tranquil street. I would like the house to be on one level and have a lot of land at lest a 1/2 acer although I would like more . I don't like sandwiched houses. I have no idea were to start looking . Does anyone know of a place like this? Please help!!!!!

The cheapest housing right now is in Detroit, but good luck finding a job there.
