Motel Trouble!!?

I just got a call from a friend with a problem; I had no idea how to help her. She has been staying at Motel 6 for the past 3 months. She went there to hide from her husband whom beat her. She just called me this is what happened Friday: She went to the office to pay her weekly rent that comes to 359.98. The front desk clerk gave her 2 cents change back. Apparently he pocketed her rent money. He鈥檚 a new guy brother to another desk clerk who鈥檚 on parole for armed robbery. The manager called her and asked her if she was going to pay or leave she said she HAS paid. She went right to the office to confront the clerk with the manager. The clerk said she did pay. She left, he told the manager that after she paid he put the money on the counter she picked it up & walked out with it. Why is he saying this Tue? She told the mngr. She was going to call the police, the mngr told her that he wouldnt do that if he was her. Now they want her to pay again or leave, what should she do?

She needs to file a police report..... simple as that. Then the burden will shift to the hotel proving she did not pay. She should call Motel 6 corporate and inform them of her complaint and fax the report to them. Everybody will see right through this. She put the money down on the counter..... then picked it up and left? If she was going to skip out she merely would have left with it. So the clerks story does not fly to any normal human.

The manager actually said to not call the police and "he would not do that if he was her"? That is an implied threat. I'm betting you that for the manager to say such means he knows he has an issue and has many others.

Police, police, and police. Even if she leaves it will protect her later. Odds are she will get a free week as the management will not want further scrutiny. But if this is going on she should not be there.

As others said there is always some organization around that would help her. Sure she may be proud an not want to be "one of those people". Well you know they can do much. $1440 a month in rent alone? They can provide legal advice for this and the husband. She needs to reach out because being alone and afraid, even of the hotel management is making things worse.

Call the police and find somewhere else to stay. She should be getting a receipt of some kind everytime she pays. Even if they investigate and find that she did pay the owners can make it very unpleasant.

Leave...sorry but next time get a receipt, shes out of luck.

I would suggest she go to a women's shelter and let the motel sort out the money issue amongst themselves. She is apparently dealing with some shady characters at best, and, without a receipt, they are taking advantage of what they see as a desperate person. They know somehow that she is in hiding and that calling the police would be revealing her location. She needs to get into a shelter and then deal with the motel situation from a distance.

She needs proof she paid. Can she get a copy of the survalance tape? Any cleared checks? Anything?

With no proof, she has nothing to proove she paid and it looks like she'll be out.

Perhaps she can go to a woman's shelter or contact Volenteers of America. Some of those organizations have hotel vouchers to help homeless people get a place to stay.

Hello,, I would call the police and report it even if she moves out. Most places have video surveillance and the police could demand the tape. Also call any travel agency that promotes the Motel Six chains,(AAA),the Better Business Bureau, the Parole Officer would love to hear this too. I would also contact the State Police just to be sure the paper trail on this situation gets deeper. The amount she paid is not a good deal, get out then STIR THE CRAP!!!

1. She should go to a woman's shelter - they won't charge her money to stay there, and they can also help her with her other issues regarding the abuse by her husbande

2. She should ask the Motel 6 manager if there is a security camera on the front desk (most hotels have this), and it would show that she paid and that the clerk took the money, and she did not pocket it.

3. She should NEVER pay in cash withour getting a receipt.

Tell her "Good Luck" for me...

she didnt get a reciept, and played right into his hand, and mgr. seems to be scared too....get a reciept, and she wouldnt have this problem.....his word against hers......

she should pay or leave. she never paid the 1st time. otherwise she would have a receipt; just like every other week. based on your story i therefore conclude she got beat because she is stupid
