The Dreaded College Credit and Renting....? |
Being that I work in sales, I know about credit, and that due to some crazy college years, my beacon score took a major blow. I am in the process of paying everything off at one time, but I am trying to sublease an apartment ASAP...the current tenant is moving out, and with the credit check, I am scared that I won't be able to make the cut. I make about 3 times the rent, so money is not a problem...but what do rental offices look for when going through your credit score? Is there even a small glimmer of hope? For the most part on credit they are looking to see that you have some good credit established. They will be looking to see if you have unpaid utility bills, evictions, bankrupcies, judgements...things of that nature. Put in an appliciation some where, and if it's denied then at least you'll know. If that's the case you'll probably want to try a private owner. Good luck! Just be upfront with them BEFORE they check the credit. Say, "I had a little trouble with credit in college -- got sucked into the "buy now, pay later" problem with all the cards they threw at you in college, and that might show up on my credit report. But in the last x years, I've been paying stuff off, and I've had great credit on A, B, and C . . . " Be upfront, and point out where you've established stable credit since then. |
