Getting a Payment Receipt?

Does anyone know if in Texas a business HAS to give you a receipt for payment? I payed my rent check the last 2 months and the office REFUSES to give me a receipt and I really need one. They told me that I should have carbon copy checks. Having a carbon copy doesn't prove you gave them the check and I want a receipt. What can I do?

I would say that yes they have to give you a receipt if you request one. I manage an apartment community and we provide receipts to all of our residents that request one. Sounds to me like something funny is going on. I would contact the next person up from the manager, and make them aware ofthis situation.

Yes, every business will have to give you a reciept at time of payment. It is a very smart idea to get one because of businesses like that who try to cheat people.
