My apartment lease expires next month and i am ready to move, i intend on giving my 30-day notice but...?

.....i just recieved a letter stating that the office needs a 60-day notice!!!! I can't afford to pay two apartments at the same time and i am so ready to live on my own without a roommate...The office also told us they are increasing the rent again!! Is this just their way of making more money?? Can i still leave when my lease is up??

Well i just found my copy of the original lease...signed and dated 5/4/04.....i also noticed a change in property management while browsing online....i am almost sure they didn't give me a copy of the last two lease renewals that i had to sign.....i still go by 30-days, right??

Okay before I begin check your lease agreement or with a Tenant's Help Agency to confirm but.....

Generally if you are coming out of a fixed term agreement (a lease signed for a specific amount of time standard is 12 months) then you can give notice on the final day of your lease for 30 days (21 days in ACT, Australia) OR you can give your notice prior to the end of your lease providing the final date of occupancy is the end day of your lease as stated on the originally signed documents. Your saying your lease is up in month and you want to give your 30 day notice, then by all rights you should be allowed to do so.
If they are saying give 60 day notice I'd ask to speak to the principal of the business to confirm this. Perhaps an assistant or receptionist has given you wrong information? Check your lease agreement though.
Hey, if they want to increase the rent again then let them your moving out anyway! They have to give you a certain amount of notice and this is generally in written form...so technically if they do this you should be gone anyway!
Yes, if you have confirmed by looking into your lease agreement and followed the correct procedures in letting the landlord know that you will be vacating the property then by all rights you are allowed to leave after the lease ends.

Best of Luck

Check your lease agreement. You'll only liable for what stated in the lease.

u go by what was told in the begining!

If u have any agreement copy check out the terms and conditions in the same.

You have abide to what is put in the same.

Else u can always fight for urself.

all the best.
