Question about laws in CA about 30 day notices and other laws...?

Hi!

Okay -

1. I have lived in Santa Cruz for 2 years at the same place
2. They sold it to build condos
3. They gave me a 180 day notice to vacate
4. Gave 90 notice for me to refuse purchasing the condo
5. I paid for April's rent in full
6. 2 days ago a found a place to move in to that i can't pass up
7. Office told me I had to give 30 day notice and I will have to pay rent until May 6th. $250 extra.
8. Got notice that we will get $2000 for relocation

My question is, can i get out of paying for the 6 extra days at all? They gave ME notice to move out in 180 days - it said nothing about me giving them notice. I didn't know I would be moving so soon - if I did i would have given notice...but it is too late now - is there anyway to get out of it? It was a month to month - the office said I could try to talk to the owner....

Also they are paying me $2000 so I can move - (which will cover the deposit of my new place) do they have to pay me by law?

What about interest on my deposit?

thanks - any websites would be great - I don't know legally if there is any way around it - one person told me the 180 day notice changes things...?

thank you!

On a month-to-month rental in California, the tenant must give 30 days notice in order to vacate. You are stuck paying the 6 extra days.

There is not legal requirement for then to pay you the $2000 to vacate the unit.

what are the terms of the $2000 relocation money?
is it in the terms to give the 30 days notice?
when will you recieve the $2000?
ordinarily, I'd say pi$$ on them, but for the $2000...
Legally, they must pay you the $2000 if it's in writing. The $250 is a seperate matter...

Check the housing board. $2,000 seems kind of low for forcing you out. I live in LA and I thought it was closer to $5,000. I could be wrong, but I live in a rent control area too.
THe Housing board should give you all the info you need.
