How can I start my own language school?

Hi, I have been teaching English for about 2 years and I am sick of working for someone else. I want to teach what I want to teach, where, how and who. The idea of starting a language school has been there for a long time, but never had the chance or enough desire.
Now i have just seen a great office not far from where I live which doesnt have a veryy high rent, if I get it together the way I want it I can afford to pay it no problem and make more money as well. Now the question is - how risky is it starting a course in a suburb sort of area (even though right next to the train station). What are the chances for success and failure? I dont have much money, should I get a partner?
Has anyone done it before and failed? Or maybe some great success stories? Where do i begin?

I am in Germany at the moment. I have only one private student because I dont have enough time since I am working for other people.
Can I not get a building and go from there? You have to look presentable, if I want to charge a lot of money i have to provide a good separate classroom. what do u think? I am not sure.

Since you've never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. You have to determine how you'll use the web to advertise your business and how you'll get the necessary building infrastructure. I'd look for an organization in Germany that provides free business counseling in your neighborhood.

The counselor will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a language school and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.

You'll need to register the business with your city/county in Germany and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

Good Luck

Do you live in Japan?Or America?Where ever you are at I believe you can do it and you will succeed. You can start giving private lessons on the side and when you have enough get the building. Sorry if I wasn't of help.
