Suffolk County New York EVICTION process TENANT help!! NY? |
Hi.....does anyone know a process whereby I can get some help here in Suffolk NY. We are 2 disabled parents with three children. One of us is on long term SSDI (Please do NOT judge) the other recovering from a horrible illness. We were one week late with the rent and the landlord took us to court. He received a money judgment that had to be paid by 12/14. We brought the money to the lawyers office and the lawyer said he would NOT accept it because we did not have HIS FEE nor did we have the late fee. A total of $750 more than the 2 months rent the landlord was awarded. We did NOT have it and have NO OTHER family to borrow from....as a result we are on the sheriff's eviction list as of today. Once the Sheriff comes we have 72 hours to move. We have nowhere to go and NO FAMILY to help......Does anyone know of any options that can help. We have a 9 month old, 8 year old, & 15 year old. I am very sick and have been on bedrest for 18 months. I need my husband for daily medical care. Thank U Also want to add....HUSBAND is on long term SSDI and works F/T....we make too much for DSS help but just not enough to sustain ourselves thru me being out of work and sick like this....(I was a working nurse)......Thanks GUYS! Get in touch with Social Services and ask for emergency assistance. You can also try your local churches...sometimes they can help you. Call the local social services in your area. They can give you more information then the forums. The sheriff will take you or tell you how to find the local shelter. Since you have children you can stay in the shelter 24/7. W/O children you usually have to leave each morning and return each evening. |
