Is this accepetable behavior for a doctor?

I finally got Health insurance from my new job and I was looking for a good doctor to go see. A few people I know gave this one female Dr. good reviews so I made and appointment to see her. Her office is located in a wealthy town but it wasn't that far from where I lived so I didn't care much. When I got there I was explaining my situation to her and when she realized that I made less then $100,000 a year she treated me like a homeless crackehead asking for handouts! I told her that before I got my health insurance I went to the health clinic and she basically implied that I should go back there! When I told her that I would be paying more for a dr. visit there than I would if I used my insurance deductible, she suggested I lie to them and tell them I didn't have insurance and was unemployed! She also asked me how I was able to pay my rent each month (even though I make more than enough to pay my rent) she asked me why I was not on welfare (Hello! you have to have kids and be

unemployed to be on welfare!) and then she even said 'I assume you do not have your co-pay today'. I never said once during the visit that I didn't have my co-pay! She would also ask me questions that dealt with things that happened 8 years ago and when I couldn't remember, she rolled her eyes at me! She was just trying to belittle me and I was crying by the end of the visit! I've never been treated so bad any doctor in my life and I'm pissed. Obviously I'm going to cancel the next appointment, but I just want to know is there anything I can do to get her in trouble? Seems like she was WAY unprofessional!

you should have read her while you were there. you should have told her a thing or two. why did u let her talk to you like that? omg, by the time i finished with her she would have been crying.. what a *****. write the witch a letter to let her know you did not appreciate her behaviour.

File a complaint with the state medical board.

report her

She was most definately unprofessional!!!! That is absolutly ridiculous. I believe there is a mdical board that you can report her too, but i am not familiar with it.

I'm really hard pressed to find any truth in this tale.

wow, that was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. you should definitely file a complaint.

I agree this is VERY unnacceptable behauvior. Tell her suppiours

Some areas keep a doctor referral list - check with your local hospital, better business bureau, and/or chamber of commerce to see if you can log a complaint. Also, don't forget to pray for her and give thanks that you have the better attitude and understanding. God bless you. ~Nise~

File a complaint with the state medical board about the unprofessional behavior. She may not get much reprimand but if there have been many complaints she may have to do more CME (continuing medical education) courses. Find another MD that you like.

The state's medical board should be told about her unprofessional behavior. Why did your friends recommend her? Are your friends rich?

I'm sorry I don't really have an acceptable answer for you but I just want you to know I'm with you this is not acceptable behavior for a doctor. Just remember what goes around comes around and this doctor will find herself in a situation where she may feel belittled someday.
I would tell as many people as you know about what happened especially the people who recommended her to you. Tell other doctors and especially nurses who may work in the same hospital as her. Make sure you use her name every time you talk about it. Word will get around and maybe she'll hear it back and it will change her stupid bigoted ways.

This is unprofessional but only really falls under Lousy Bedside Manor and not a punishable offense. Once checked out a pediatric DDS who was intimidating kids - because there were no MEDICAL malpractice complaint that was the review the board gave out when someone inquired - on digging deeper I found that he had mega amounts of complaints for his intimidation and strong arming. Get your complaint filed - and find another doctor.

If you feel she was unprofessional and you live in the US, you can file a complaint with your state board of medical examiners or what ever they are calle in your state. They are the state agency that grants, revokes, or disciplines doctors licenses to practice medicine. Each state has such a board.

I hate to say this, but did you marry the first guy you dated? Sometimes it is going to take a few different appointments to find out a good doctor for you, and when you find that doctor, stick with them and establish a solid relationship. Not everyone gets along with the same people and I am not sure of the body language, but it sounds like you guys were definitely not a good match. Get the book, "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz and follow her advice about choosing a doctor.....don't be surprised if you go to 3 before you find your match. By reporting this person, they are just going to get a "slap on the wrists"....do your due diligence, know your budget and be extra nice.....if this was a staff person you were dealing with explain it to the doctor, but if it was the doctor, don't go back...just be sure you can to cancel the appointment so you don't get charged and call asap and explain as nice as you can, why you are not going back. You might be surprised of the outcome.
