Does anyone think that tis is fair??

This happend MONTHS ago, but it still chaps my hide!!!! I am a single mother. I live in So Cal and don't make enough money to support myself and my child even though I have a fairly decent paying job. I went and sat down at the Welfare office ALL day long just so that I could get help with paying for rent and food, that was all I needed. I didn't need health coveragem I didn't need help with a baby sitter, I didn't need emergency housing, just a few hundred a month until I could improve my situation. I am a hard working American Citizen who has been paying taxes since I turned17. I am not a menice to society, and I take care of my business. I was TURNED DOWN because I made WAY to much money!!! I was livid, here I was NEEDING help and I couldn't get it!!!! What the hell is up with that??? Opinions are welcome!!!

For people who obviously don't know what it costs to live in So Cal:
Average rent 1300/mo for a half way decent place
Average car payment 350/month
Average gas price 3.00/gal
Average cost of formula 20.00/can
Average elcetric bill 50.00/mo for a one bedroom apt
Average grocery bill 175/2 weeks
Baby sitter 25/ day times 3 days a week
etc etc...now streatch that out on 1750 a month!!!!

That's the way it is. You have to be dirt poor to get any type of help. Which doesn't make any sense because the people who are actually hard-working citizens have to fend for themselves; but the woman with 6 kids by 6 different men, too lazy to get off her butt and work are the ones who benefit. It doesn't make any sense at all.

I'm not sure how this makes sense... what are u spending your money on? If you are payed decently, then why can't u support you and your child... maybe u should cut down on things that aren't nessesarly a nessisity...welfare looks at the families that aren't paid well enough, or not anything at all, and tries to help them first, not families who are payed well, and can't afford there child.

Honey, aint no different here on the east coast either! They cut out my food stamps cuz I work. Then told me they overpaid me last year and I gotta pay them back. I work two jobs and because I am not receiving child support I went to see if they could help me temporarily with food. They practically told me if I sat at home and did nothin they would pay my rent, my groceries, my health care, utilities AND send me to school free!! I said I already work, I just need some help to feed my kids till I get child support started. Its like Im too rich for the system but too poor for the real world. Like Im lost in the cracks of society, Im out here trying and I have paid my taxes in for many many years.....

does your child's father pay child support If not look into it and have you tried looking into help groups. Some churches have programs that help single parents there are also government programs out there that can help you. Look up government programs for single parents in your state and see what they have.

I know that there has to be a cut off line with everything, but what really pisses me off is when woman have children, apply and receive welfare, and lay up with men that make more than enough to support their family and they still get health insurance, money for rent and food. Those workers should get off there butts and go and check on people (not make appointments) and see what is going on. This way there might be $ for people like you who really need the assistance for short periods of time.

Just think of the standard of poverty those have that meet the requirements for help. Compared to them, you are rich. Welfare is a system that offers you help up until the point where you are about to get on your feet, and then cuts you off, or in some cases cuts you off and demands you pay some of it back.

Where is the single father in this? Couldn't he help?

At my church we had a young lady, who was a single mom. in sorta the same situation. After at a deacons meeting one night I brought up the subject of how she was rejected by the government. So we help her out with her bills and rent so she can make ends meet. It's a shame the government does people this way. My heart goes out to you. And I'll pray that God provides whatever you need at this time for you and your child.

U could consider leaving california..

My own brothernlaw makes the same $$ as I do.
Yet, I live in a 3000sq ft home, that is worht $150,000
He lilve in 900sqft in a home about $400,000.

My cost of living overall is a lot lot less (he lives in L.A.).

He could move here and live like a king litterally.

He could buy a mansion of 10,000 sq feet for $400,000 (he owns his house free & clear).

Personally its stupid to live in most areas of CA.

IN my area, when we lose a job we can get unemployment for $350/wk... max ... btw, I previously then made $70,000 a year.
I now make 1/4 of that, doing virtually the same work.

Problem is california & its system.
