How can i establish dual residency in two states? is it worth it? |
i work in washington dc and my w2 takes out taxes for washignton DC. I rent an apartment in DC. I also work part itme out of the LA, CA office of the same company. I own a home in Los Angeles, CA. I want to be considered a LA resident so that i can vote in the place where I own property. But i recently had to get a DC driver license when I bought and registered a car in DC. Any one with suggestions for making my dual residency official if thats a good idea. any advice for taxation. (thank goodness i filed for an extention) You can't be a permanent resident of two states, and you must be licensed and register your vehicle in your state of permanent residence. You could certainly claim California residence, but that would require getting a CA drivers license, registering your car here, and paying CA taxes. if you like headaches, it is worth it. |
