Why are jobs like pole dancing seen as a sign you are dumb?

Mostly women comment negatively about this job, and its because their not confident, or bold enough to get up there and dance, their JEALOUS. My cousin is a stripper, and SOOOO many girls say mean things about her because they are tooo out -of -shape, AND BORING to try it. Stripping isnt for everyone though. But as a woman it seems other women will find ANY "flaw" in a another woman to talk about to make themselves feel better. I say theres nothing wrong with the job, people need to mind their own business!!!

Any job that relies on one trait often insinuates that some other trait is lacking or weaker. Nerds are rarely beautiful etc.

In reality, most strippers have kids that they have to support, and with a lack of college education, the idea of stripping becomes attractive (especially when they consider the kind of money that strippers make).

I think it's the status that it was once a prelude to being hired for other 'jobs'. I think it would be really fun to try sometime and a great form of exorcise. As I already love dancing at clubs.

I've never thought of them as dumb. I don't judge them, but it's definitely not something I could ever see myself doing. Just because i'm so modest, and horribly shy...plus, I like to leave a little to the imagination.

Right on.... I think jobs like pole dancing, porn stars, prostitutes, nude models strippers, lap dancers and many more are excellent ways of earning a living and there should be more women willing to do such jobs.. Who cares if they are bumb chicks or graduates.

Unfortunately all through history these types of jobs where women undress for men/money have been viewed negatively and the women are made out to be stupid drug addicted prostitutes, when in fact as you stated many are not.

If you are attractive, smart and want to make alot of money and nobody is pressuring you to do anything you don't want to the "pole dancing" is an awesome career for a while.

If I was 21 again and had the self confidence I would be on a pole in a second!!

I think because it was always viewed as not needing intelligence to take your clothes off, or display your body.
Plus it's seen (by some) as a get rich quick thing, as these sort of 'careers' are short lived.
I've worked in the Photographic profession for over 30 years. And 95% of the models I've known AND still know, are not College/University material. (No offence girls.)
