How do I stop the neighbors dog from constantly barking all the time when they are not home?

When they're home, it's all good. But as soon as they leave, it's non stop bark, bark, bark. I live in an apartment, and complaints to the office have gone unfulfilled. The people are pricks to say the least, and when asked if they might be able to do something about it, they respond "it's a dog. Thats what they do."

Any suggestions for this problem? Anything I might be able to buy from a store? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Oh, I should also mention that I have 2 cats and don't want to use anything that might freak them out. I'm not sure if dog whistles are heard by cats.

And before someone mentions it, I don't want to move. This is the sweetest place money can rent.

Thanks in advance.

The answer to "it's a dog that's what they do" is "yes it is - until they are taught not to."

I don't know what to do from the outside - is there a clause in your lease for excessive barking? If they didn't know I'd say politely inform them their dog barks when they're gone - some dogs do and until an owner knows they can't fix it. It sounds like these owners know. Are they above/below/beside you? Do other people have a problem with the barking also? Are the people trying anything at all? If they're at all interested in trying to amend their pet's behavior you might make a gift of a few dog toys - a Kong, or other toys to keep the dog busy when they're gone. If he's busy he's not barking. It may or may not work - but stopping a dog from the outside by a stranger if the owner doesn't try too.

Yes the owner should try this on their own - but if it works at least you'd have some peace.

tell the owner. maybe they can shut the dog up ( i know how annoying a barking dog can be.)

If the owners are ignoring you and the management is ignoring you and the dogs are actually barking for hours non-stop, then you could call a person from Animal Control with a complaint. They may not be able to come out for awhile, but they will be able to hear what you are talking about and they can cite the people for it.
It's inconsiderate and rude to say the least for people to ignore that their animals are a nuisance because they are too lazy to properly train them.

Unfortunately, dogs cannot be trained from a distance.
It's too bad, because the dog is suffering from separation anxiety and need to be trained so he feels secure.
Would it help if you recorded it and played it for your neighbors? Is it possible they don't know how really bad it is?
Maybe download and print some stuff off the computer that tells how to deal with separation anxiety and give it to them?
All they really need to do is crate the dog when they are gone.

Sorry...and good luck.

I've had dog that like to drink antifreeze try that

call the cops, thats what i did , but i live in a house.... and i also told them that the dog poops in my back yard, they took the dog away cause it wasnt my first complaint lol.

If they're outside you can shut them up by using a sling shot to hit something next to them and make them realize you can reach them. This does work; but you say you live in an apartment and so maybe the dogs are in a neighboring apartment. For that you need to call animal control or the police.

tell the owner that the dog is making alot of noise. maby the dog will be quiet.
