Why do families have it so hard?

I have two kids and a partner. I really want to work because I can't handle sitting at home. I was working then my artner got a job so we could afford to buy our own home. He got a great job full time great bosses who really appreciate him. So I told Family Assistance Office our new income and my childcare government subsidy went down heaps, now my childcare centre wants me to pay $370 a week to have my kids in full time care. Some weeks I will be lucky to earn that other weeks the maximum I can earn is $550 so I would only take home $150. But then my family assistance payment goes down to like $150 A fortnight, so after doing a heap of calculations I worked out I would be $20 better of a week to stay home and look after my family. The problem is we want to pay bills, we have rent, food, fuel, credit cards, loans and many more and I can't see a way out other than working hard. My partner works his *** of but is flat out bringing in $1500 a fortnight yet he pays $500 tax

I dont see why we should pay for people to sit at home and bludge, do drugs, drink and not want to work. When I have two kids to support and nobody want to give me a chance to get ahead. I have had to get a nightfill job to earn extra money, but now I never see my partner, I know I am winging but we can't win. We pay a fortune in interest charges because we don't pay bills on time and it is so hard to prioritize when we don't have enough money to pay everything

Now don't get me wrong: I believe that people (both individually and collectively) should be ready, willing and able to help those persons less fortunate than themselves and are what used to be considered the deserving poor...and sometimes that help does include government assistance...but that should be reserved for those who truly need it, and only until they are able to get on their feet. Government assistance programs for the most part were never meant to be permanent or extend through one's lifetime..except under the most desperate of circumstances (say a person becomes disabled through no fault of their own.)

Yes, there are some who abuse the welfare system worldwide...and people all over the world have to pick up the tax burden for others who won't pull their own weight...but that's just life. It's useless to complain about or think too much of others who don't have a work ethic...and have no problem with being on welfare/the dole. They don't care what other people think...as long as they get their check. Do you really want to be counted amongst their ranks? I think not, otherwise you wouldn't have brought up the subject.

Right now, your main concern should be you and YOUR family, not the other fellow. I think you know in your heart of hearts, you are able to work, and if you did stay home knowing you can work you'd be doing wrong.

No matter how hard or "unfair" things may seem right now, please know that you are doing the right thing. By choosing to work instead of remaining on welfare, you are doing the mature thing: accepting personal and financial responsibility for your life and beleive it or not, you are making it...even if you're not exactly rich. In fact, don't waste time comparing yourself to the mega-rich you see on TV or in magazines. That's just as useless as worrying too much about those who "live off your taxes"...and truth of the matter, you were/are one of those people, so how can you really judge like that?

Way I see it, by working and maybe forfeiting time spent with partner, you're making the sacrifices NOW to reap the honest benefit later...so that $20 "better" is not really better at all in terms of the ultimate cost...your self respect. What about learning how to budget your time as well as your money? it doesn't have to be an either/or proposition. Look at all of your options and maybe find work that allows you to have time with family...(maybe running a day care?) it can be done. Talk to your debtors and see what alternate payment arrangement can be made...maybe even consider declaring bankruptcy if it really is too much to handle. No that is NOT the easy way out, but it is an option to consider if appropriate to your circumstances.

Either way...continue to work. If you continue to work, build skills, maybe go for more education, and network to find those better jobs... not only will you eventually get your head above water, your self-confidence will multiply a hundred fold because you'll know you have accomplished something worthwhile instead of waiting once again for that undeserving handout.

You won't be sorry if you do that. Honest.

go to the nearest bank and see if they can help u

#1 if you are able to work.. What is wrong with you that you are sucking up our tax dollars.. Who do you think pays for the checks you receive from the government.?

I pay taxes so you can buy a house while collecting a free check cuz you have kids? Ones you made of your own free will?

I do not own a house or collect any freebie benefits because I saw the cost of raising a family and chose not to spread my legs and spit out children..You ought to be ashamed of yourself for even asking why you have it so hard.. How about you get off welfare and see how the rest of us live.. jesus christ!

The hash truth to answer this question is get educated.
Don't rely on the government for additional help. Use them to do courses etc. I am not being smart, but years ago, i saw the trend. Hsc/vce. Now a days every job advertisement has this in the job criteria. Either you or your husband, do a course, be it. IT, HR, fork lift licence, anything that sets you apart or gives the edge to the norm. Trust me, you will be far more financial than those continuing to look for that assistance. You might struggle during, but the end result will be better. Ironically once you have the additional degree, you will get more government assistance anyway.
Weird I know. But true.

Well, sweetie, I know this sounds harsh, but if people could just learn, ahead of time, that bringing children into the world is a big responsibility, fewer people would choose to do that. It is YOUR responsibility to see that your children are taken care of, not the governments. The people who pay taxes for you to enjoy having a home, are getting very tired of doing that. I suggest you get a job and quit whining.

what can i tell you. you both need a better job, so study harder. be a nurse or something. they are in big demand. you could work swing or grveyard and you switch off witht the kids.

you need to stop using credit cards. here's a saying i like. if you need to put it on credit, you dont need it.

you dont see your partner? well tough shat. when you have kids, your lucky to get any alone time. you'll figure something out until you get on day shift.

stop crying about your welfare. people should use welfare only in emergency, get on get off get on with your life. if you have time to fart around on yahoo, i think you could probably be learning a good skill too.
