Unemployment question, Crazy and unfortunate situation.?

I recently quit my job because I was talking with the owner of another company that I know from years ago who offered me more money to work for him as his office manager. Turns out he didnt have any employees for me to manage when he told me he had 10. It's a telemarketing company and the first week the phones were shut off and there was no help wanted ad..waited 2 weeks for an ad and did what I could. Phone turned back on and an ad in the paper. Then the internet goes out so there is no phones(even the people calling about the ad!) So there is no internet or phone and no employees. Seeing a bad situation get worse I quit to find another job because I had not seen a paycheck yet. I've tried contacting him, won't return my calls or e-mails. I've had to borrow money to get by and now cannot pay my rent without this paycheck and am in debt. What can I do. I also think he tries to use independant contractor. I ran the store and still have the keys. Is there any chance on this?

i tried but they were upset with me because I left to goto a competitor. I worked there for some time and knew everyone pretty good.

First of all, you should contact your attorney general of the state you live in. What he did is considered fraud. Second contact your state Unemployment agency and file for benefits. As a victim of employment fraud you are eligible. Third, type up a good resume and search for a new position. Good Luck.

Very similar situation happened to one of my friends. He went to his old job, explained them the situation, and begged to take him back. Fortunately, they did. Try to contact your old job first. Even if they turn you away, you will know that you at least tried. Good Luck.
