Forgery?????? |
I signed a note with my signature and my fiance's signature, to our landlord giving them a 30 day notice. I had forgotten to have my fiance sign the letter than morning, so when I took it to the leasing office, the landlord asked if I could just sign it for him. We did not end up leaving afterall since we had a year lease,(which caused problems against us, the owner and the landlord/prop man.), but they still have that letter on file and I am afraid that when I go into request our late fee's for rent (which is illegal for landlords to charge, so is to be included in the deposit upon vacating) they will use that "forged" letter against me. Can they do that? And if so, how bad of an offense is it? Yes...my fiance is okay with it..and HE wouldn't press charges, I'm just worried that the owner could and would. Well in my opinion you shouldn't have signed your signature for your fiance's at all. But if you do decide to request that and they do try and use the letter against you I think you should bring up the fact that they asked you to do that and if you do get in trouble they would share the blame. And the only one that would be able to accuse you of forgery would be your fiance or the bank if you trying to steal money. Don't worry about it. If your fiance was ok with it, there is nobody who could cause you problems. Your fiance would be the only one who could accuse you of forgery. I am pretty sure that if you have your fiance's consent to sign his name for that document it's not considered forgery. In the future when you sign someone's name sign it like so: |
