What can we do? military housing not safe.?

I live in military housing with hubby and 3 kids, where we live is insane. We live in what they call satellite, we live out in the rural area about 20 miles from bases, the problem we're having is the kids are taking over and destroying everything. there have been atleast 5 car broken into in 2 days, their breaking into empty units, their breaking windows, we have the sheriffs office out here all the time, and with school getting out soon it will be worse, we have no security, they say its to much for gas to send security here. and since the public eyes doesn't see they don't care. and pretty much once you pick a house off base they won't let you move to base, we are really at lost on what to do. We love our kids school and there are no places to buy or rent in that area, thats why we live here also they take housing pay out, between 1000 and 1300 depending on rank. But we feel very unsafe, we though about calling the news but we've been warned spouses jobs would be at stake. HELP...

I failed to mention the new car my neighbor had for 9 days that someone stoled and torched.

I would call the fleet and family service center. Ask them for help. Document all you can. Also, call the base police. Get them involved. Thier parents should be held resposible. Have you called housing too? I would let them know about every incident. It's rediculous that satelite housing is left to its own devices- usually is. USE the ICE Comments. There should be a link on thier homepage. The complaints are CC'd to the base CO. Use them! If you dont hear anything or get some results then contact the base CO. There are things you can do to resolve it you just have to make noise.

Good Luck!

Maybe its time to hold a community meeting.

I would not care if my spouses job is at stake. Call the news if no one is helping you. You are serving our country and should be able to live in a safe environment!

contact President Bush he should be ashamed of himself for not going the extra mile to keep you and your family in a safe neighborhood and threats to you about spouses jobs what a great country we live in , want everyone to fight for us but treat you and your family like this Horrid to say the least !!

the neighborhoods are not safe in most places anymore , there are alot of people on drugs . or they are confused what to do next there is too much war, people dont know how to cope anymore, they see no future inexistence, so some do not care about others that is the way it is. i hate you have to live like that in military setting , money is running out , people are stressed and their is a panic. nothing can be done , you just have to wait it out, just like these poor folks in appalchia and all over the world some people live under bridges and in cardboard boxes, so the best thing to do is focus on the good things like you are not under a brigde or in a box. nonone is safe in this troubled world, you have to learn to survive on your own, secure yourself learn how to secure your home and teach your family survival skills ,

You can install a couple of cameras to watch and record everything that happens around your area. A couple of black and white cameras and a small recording device would be around 200 bucks or so. It's an investment so that if anyone does damage your property, you have the footage to back up your claims in court. Get these kids on tape and there's nothing they can do to weasel their way out of it.

I'm all about privacy but when it comes to protecting what is mine, a few more eyes don't hurt.

Where do you live? it sounds like overseas. I was in the Army for over ten years with a family, spent about 4 of them in military housing, and hated every second of it. That is why I spent most of my time fighting and scraping for off base housing. The living conditions were worse, but at least we didnt live around morons.
*One suggestion might be to start a neighborhood watch group.
*Also, get your husband to write letters to the Command Sergeant Major, and who ever is in charge of housing. He is going to cringe when you mention this, just remind him that he should be more afraid of YOU than him.
*Someone out there is senior ranking person, and they better do something about it.
*I dont mean just write letters, your husband needs to HAND CARRY THEM, and jump on somebodys desk and kick their papers around. He needs to be an annoying turd that wont go away.
*We had to resort to the mass punishment routine, and it helped somewhat. Every military member of housing takes turns 'walking the beat' during their off time keeping check of morons. Usually, it was their own kids being little thugs, and it gave them incentive to lay in to their kids little butts through peer pressure.
*If it is that bad, I would have regular military 2 man patrols. Not MPs, but regular troops in uniform. That should be intimidating enough for the little scumbags. *Some of the men need to grab their testicles, go out there at night and catch them.
*i know that is a grey area, because you cant lay hands on someones elses kid, but if you catch them doing something ILLEGAL, you can place them under citizens arrest.
*Video surviellance is another option, although it might be expensive. You SHOULD film them in the act, if you can, or AT LEAST film the damage they cause and plop that on the Sergeant Majors desk. Dont worrying about placing an extra hassle on him, IT IS HIS JOB. Most of them are mean anyway, and would jump at the chance to make someone miserable.
*The last resort is most painful, pack your bags and go home. My Ex was stuck in Germany with two kids while I was off trying to kill Saddam during Desert Storm. conditions in Germany were PATHETIC. They had barbed wire around housing and armed patrols with tanks and machine guns at the entrance because our 'allies', the Germans wanted to kill us. They had to close the school (which was already surrounded with tanks and barbed wire), because they couldnt guarantee security for the kids. Too many bomb threats from our German 'friends' It got too much, and she had to pack up herself and the kids, LEAVE all our stuff behind, and head back to the states.
I wish i could help you more, and hope this helps a little. I feel your pain, believe me. i know it is hell. God bless you.

you must employ guard ,shefiff or amry force pretol

Honey, you work for the government and guess what... you live in GOVT. HOUSING. Where I come from they call that the projects and in the projects you have a lot of crime.
The military is a roll of the dice, there is nothing in the military that is 100% gauranteed. Most people join the military because they have no other options, the military is aware of this as well.
If you join the military, say a prayer and hope for the best in most cases things will work out for you but in some cases you will get screwed, that's just the way it is and that's the way it has always been.

And Christina you are wrong... if you can afford it , there are many very nice neighborhoods that are still available to live in. Where in the hell do you people in the service get your information and education these days!!! Geesh, it's sad!

And Nooo Setting up a wireless cam , is not going to make a dent in the problem, I think the poster understands the issue is much more bigger than that.

I would set up a small cam they are cheap run it to your pc and monitor it for a week when you have something call the police if that don't work call the news and tell them your story. at least you got something to show and you have an idea who is doing it.

The police/mp's/sp's will come out anytime you need them.

I cannot believe they'd tell you it's 'too much gas'.

Keep calling them. Keep calling them.

Get a neighborhood watch up.

Sandbag your house and have your kids pull 24/7 fireguard.

When it goes down, remember to aim center-mass and go easy on the trigger-squeese.

;)

Here's an idea, MOVE! If you live in a bad neighborhood, you move. You are given money to live off base, USE IT.

OR

Form a neighborhood watch and start beating up on the kids when they start criminal activity.

if Housing won't give you any love, then go to the Inspector General. It's their JOB to investigate stuff like this. Also consider getting the Command involved as well.. it is in their best interest to see that their Personnel are not distracted by housing worries.

is your housing PPV?

First, spouses jobs are not at stake, someone is trying to scare you. Your asking for help but you already have the answer, call the news, call the paper, KEEP calling the sheriff, go to the IG and let them know, go to post housing and talk to the director.......... Video the kids doing it, buy a gun. WHATEVER IT TAKES. and If all else fails, move and don't think twice about. By the way, if you move to a regular apartment you will get the BAH back.

What base are you assigned to? If you are in the US you may live on base....the only stipulation is that you must get your name onto the base housing waiting list. Even if you have lived off base since your PCS, you may add your name at anytime. You are subject to the same wait time as everyone else once you get your name on the list. If you are outside the US and are stationed at a base, have your active duty member talk to his/her commanding officer. No commander wants his/her people living in unsafe conditions. He/she should be able to help you out. You are a part of a wonderful military, if you have a good attitude and ask the right people questions, I have found you will always get the support you need.

Military housing is a roll of the dice. Sometimes you get great housing...other times you get the crap, but you have a choice. You do have a choice. You can move out of military housing and rent a house in a safer neighborhood. Some bases we lived off post, some on. Our last duty station we were in 801 housing. Off post and owned by a private company but leased to the gov't. If the housing is not on post, mp's have no authority. We had to refer all of our problems to the local police department. Personally....if the choice is between loving the school and living in a very unsafe area or moving to a safer area and finding a new school....it's a no brainer. I'm sure that there are other great schools there. They may also allow you to keep your child at that school even if you live in somewhere else. Check with the school to see if they accept out of area students.
