Career Crisis! Am I the only one?

I am in a right state. I Am nearly 26 years old. I studied photography at university and went on to manage a photography studio for 3 years. When the firm went bankrupt I couldn't find employment within photography. I then tried barwork. This I enjoyed but it didn't pay enough. Now I work in an office as a general dogsbody and I hate it. The moneys ok but the people are older than meand I find I'm really stressed and can't switch off. I don't know what I want to do. I have no savings and can't drive. I am starting lessons but it will take time. i cant quit my job because of looking after my mum and paying rent. I nearly lost my girlfriend because she is so upset with me moaning about work. Help anyone!!!

When we lose our jobs or lose our status the thing to remember is not to get upset, become bitter or resentful, or lash out and blame others. After we have dried our tears, we have to bounce back, accept the loss, reinvent ourselves and move on.

Perhaps, we need to change our attitudes and shift our paradigms; perhaps we need to confront our values, or learn new skills. Perhaps, we need to get honest feedback on our performance, on our work behaviors and attitudes to identify our strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement. Perhaps we need to retool ourselves. Perhaps we need to leave our present organization when we are no longer happy and fulfilled in what we are doing.

When we find ourselves in this situation we have to plan our career. Career planning is a deliberate process of knowing WHO we are so that we can be sure WHERE we want to go or WHAT we want to be at some defined point in the future.

Here are some sites, which can help you plan your career.

Job Hunters Bible - My favorite. I have taught their system to hundreds of people with great results. Richard N. Bolles, America's dean of Career Consultants, heads the company and is also the author of the book, 'What Color Is Your Parachute.'

Peace and every blessing!

WOW I thought I was the only one. Office work can be stressful. Particularly working with some older people. Some older people expect more of a young person and cannot relate to young people. I also have a degree, I can but I refuse to drive. No reason, I just refuse to contribute to greenhouse gases and I find buses cheaper. I am not working but find the more qualifications you have, the more people expect of you. I felt a little degraded doing some jobs I have done but I too needed the money. Maybe you could try looking for another job. You have many skills and would be an asset to any organisation. Keep your chin up and look around.

no, your case happens to every one, things will change.

why did you take photography in the university?, maybe because its your first love or its the one that interest you the most. if you focus hard in photography which you have already a 3 years experience then the career crisis is over. find something or someone that may inspire you in your art (cause photography is art) maybe it will boost your confidence in your work, many of our great artist started just like you, but in the end they succeed and some of them became famous.
