Apartment nieghbors?

Me and my boyfriend are about to move
into an apartment but when we looked at it today, it is very nice and looks clean, resonable price for us, and we will be accepted in about 4-5 months. When we were there my boyfriend noticed there are mostly african american resedence [ do not get offended ] while both of us have nothing against that, he thinks it might be trouble, or he might get yelled at or picked on because he is white, its happened before when he was younger, on the application you have to include a police clearance from our county police office, so that makes me think that noone who is that bad will live there, and i heard that people get evicted quite often if they do not pay rent/ follow rules/ behave. etc. but it will be my boyfriend, myself and a baby about 3-6 months old, depending on when we move in.

has anyone had feelings like this before moving in anywhere, and like i said it looks nice, were just worried about the nieghbors,
Weve never lived in an apartment

So my question is
what would you do
would you try it out?
would you talk to the landlords
and ask how the crime rate is there
my boyfriend thinks they will just lie
because they want you to live there,

any advice, or tips???

I think you're worrying unnecessarily. You know nothing against the neighbors, and in fact you know only positive things - they have all gone through the same rigorous screening process that you have. It is unfair to assume that they will act any differently (in general or towards you specifically) than neighbors of other races would.

To calm your fears, go introduce yourself and your boyfriend to the neighbors before you sign the lease. Talk to the people who live closest to your unit. Tell them you're thinking of moving in and wanted to get a sense of who the neighbors were, what sort of hours they keep, etc. Ask them how they like the complex, how the manager responds to complaints, and how safe they think the neighborhood is. They have nothing to gain from you moving in, except hopefully a nice neighbor, so they have no reason to lie to you. Keep an open mind and listen to your instincts - do they seem like nice people, or do they giv eyou any reason to suspect them?

If worse comes to worse, it's only a rental, and you can move out in a year when your lease is up. It's not the end of the world if you get a bad neighbor; there is plenty you can do about it before needing to move out. Don't miss out on an otherwise great living situation because of a few racist fears.

Naturally, you are apprehensive. You want to be safe. Realistically, you have few options. Since you say you can afford it and it is clean, you should be alright. You might ask some of the residents there now about the building. They would be more knowledgeable.

There are some other things that you might want to take into account. My ex husband and I moved into an apartment one time in a not so great neighborhood because we liked the price of the rent. A couple things happened that we can never forget. First was there were so many low income people there that brought in cockroaches! Anything that broke we had to fight to get fixed. There were fights between people in the hallways, my car got broken into and the stereo was stolen, there were people selling drugs around the apartments and there was one woman that would punish her two year old son by putting him out on her porch for hours on end. The catch was we signed into a 6 month lease and we couldn't get out even with all the drama. It's hard to find a place these days to live, but if you can save up and go somewhere else, try to do that. If you have a bad feeling about the situation don't move in.
