Is it appropriate to ask for weekends only?

I just accepted a part time position at my old office job, but I need weekend hours in addition to the M-W-F hours (I have an internship T and Thurs)....

I have 2 retail interviews that were set up prior to my accepting this position. Anyway, I was wondering, since I said on my applications that I was available M-W-F and weekends, is it appropriate to mention now that I'm only available on the weekends? Or should I say that after I've been hired? Would that be unethical/wrong? Help!

Why not full-time? I worked full-time after college for 2 yrs, then decided to completely change careers (recently), so I took on a part-time unpaid internship, but I need to pay my rent and eat! That's why all the part-time jobs.....

I suggest you speak the true. This is very much like a first-come-first-served issue. Let the prospective employer knows that you've accepted a position you like and you're now keen to work for them over weekends. If they agree, good luck! If not, look somewhere else.

It's best to be up front. They might want to clarify your availability before you begin anyway. And most people want weekends off in office jobs, so they might be happy to have you take the weekend hours.

I think the right thing to do is to be honest. You will feel better for telling the truth, and the company will appreciate your honesty.
