Problems at a new job and need opinions please.?

I have a new part time job, working for a friend of my fiance. This man owns a mexican restaurant, and sometimes there are some language issues. I have another job, 3 days a week, so I work 2 days at his restaurant, doing paperwork.

Problem is, he doesn't tell me anything. He doesn't like to be asked questions. He owns 2 restaurants, a ranch, and rent houses. He leaves a big stack of bills on his desk for me. I guess to sort. He brings in his checkbook one day a week and tells me to write checks for bills that must be paid. But I don't always know what's personal and what's business.

2 days a week I sit alone in a little windowless office in the back of the kitchen, where the a/c, big fridge, breaker boxes all hum. Not knowing what he wants me to do other than sort papers (done in less than an hour). But all I do is sit here for hours, and maybe get to see him for 15 minutes.

I need the money, but I would rather be alone with nothing to do at home.

He had a girl working there full time, she had worked for him for years. She was like a manager, and she loved bossing people around and didn't care what she was paid which was $20,000 last year.

I am part time, my pay is that of a secretary not a manager. I do not know anything about a restaurant, nor do I have the desire to learn about the restaurant business.

But he is my fiancee's friend, and potential client and I am getting paid. Not great, but it helps pay the bills.

Just do what you're told too. If he gets mad because you didn't do something or something was done wrong, you have an excellent answer of I would have done that if I had been told about it.

i would say if you have language barriers go to see some one in the restaurant that can speak both languages and ask him to ask you boss in front of you what exactly he would like for you to do and what is business and what should be consider personal have guts and attempt second choice found another job

i feel you..listen sometimes the best thing to do is to be honest straight forward not in a harmful way there are good things to say and be diplomatic ...so both of you won't get offended here goes tell him that you really like this job and want to be good at it and that you find the situation very serious ...try that in good manners u'll see great results after wards :D

What an opportunity for you. Create your own plan
and make it work. Write it down. When it works ,
tell your boss what you did. No appreciation?
Quit, but take your plan with you.

Start a log book or list of the bills - have him glance through them and let you know which you are to pay.

You're personal style of communication isn't going to change him. Just because he doesn't talk much doesn't mean he isn't listening. Be brief, to the point and don't waste his time. Try to think ahead and anticipate for him. But you already realize you're part-time so make the most of it.

If it doesn't feel right, politely give him notice.

would u rather be busting your behind all day everyday or be doing what u doing and getting paid to do it......basically he left u in charge to handle it......HELLO! wake up i wish i had that job language barrier and all.......ill be out enjoying the day and getting paid for it.
